Three people who carry our work.
We support schools and health institutions of the Diocese of Mbulu, located in the Manyara Region in northern Tanzania.
As in most developing countries, churches have historically delivered higher education and health services alongside their pastoral work. Only in the past 20 to 30 years has the state begun to share responsibility in rural areas.
The Diocese of Mbulu covers roughly 180 km north–south and 120 km east–west. About 1.2 million people live within its area. Roughly a third follow traditional religions – all institutions serve everyone, regardless of faith.
Antony Lagwen
Bishop of the diocese since 2018 – but closely involved with our projects since 2003, then as head of the diocesan finance department. The photo shows him during a visit to Bietigheim-Bissingen in 2019.
Sr. Basilisa Panga
Our partner in Tanzania for projects in the health sector. She is a member of an African religious order, a physician, and holds a Master of Health Systems Management from a Tanzanian university.
As Health Secretary of the Diocese of Mbulu, she coordinates all health institutions: the hospitals in Dareda and Bashanet, 15 health centres, a midwifery school in Dareda, and the lab technician college in Bashanet.
Fr. Valentine Karama
Our partner for projects in the education sector. A priest, he coordinates – as Education Secretary of the Diocese of Mbulu – the five secondary and vocational schools as well as numerous parish kindergartens.
He coordinates the awarding of school scholarships within our Student Support Program.
